What is spiritual direction?
Since Wikipedia does an excellent job of succinctly explaining it, I quote: "Spiritual direction is the practice of being with people as they attempt to deepen their relationship with the divine, or to learn and grow in their own personal spirituality. The person seeking direction shares stories of his or her encounters of the divine, or how he or she is cultivating a life attuned to spiritual things. The director listens and asks questions to assist the directee in his or her process of reflection and spiritual growth. Spiritual direction advocates claim that it develops a deeper awareness with the spiritual aspect of being human, and that it is not psychotherapy, counseling, or financial planning."
Sometimes, the words "direction" and "director" cause misunderstanding about the nature of the spiritual direction. For this reason, I avoid referring myself as a "spiritual director," since it isn't really that I am your "director" as if I'm some kind of boss or an authority figure.
I offer non-sectarian and interfaith spiritual direction services, that affirm a diversity of human experiences including a wide variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, gender identities and expressions, sexual orientations, and socioeconomic differences.
Listening ears and pointed questions
Active listening sessions hold an intentional space for you to voice your thoughts. Primarily, this is about helping you listen to your inner voice by helping you navigate the complex world of thoughts and emotions. Through pointed, clarifying questions, you will discover yourself in a new and unexpected way, opening yourself to find divine directions within.
Build your own theology: Sorting out your belief system
Everyone, consciously or unconsciously, is a theologian. Even if one's belief is informed largely by one's religious upbringing as a child, or by their religious communities, it is very rare that a person unconditionally and uncritically accepts 100 percent of what was being taught. In most cases, your "theology" is often a combination of your cultural background, values passed down by your family of origin, religious teachings you may have absorbed through churches you've attended or media contents you've consumed, and your personal beliefs that are not necessarily religious. When you are reevaluating your beliefs and your life in general, it is important to reassess your theology to sort out your beliefs and the resulting ways which you view yourself and the world around you.
Designed for the people on the margin
Many people, because of their unique life circumstances, because of their political affiliations, socio-economic status, neurodiversity, or because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity, find it difficult to find appropriate spiritual direction that is respectful and understanding of your lived experiences.
Online sessions are also available over Discord or Telegram. Both services are end-to-end encrypted, ensuring your privacy and confidentiality. We do not conduct sessions over Google-, Apple-, or Facebook-owned platforms (i.e., Google Hangout, FaceTime, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger).
Pricing and appointment policies
Appointments are required. Cancellation policy is 48 hours, after which you will be liable for the missed appointment. You must be 18 years of age or older. Each session runs for 90 minutes (most other spiritual direction sessions are 45 or 50 minutes) to ensure a more in-depth exploratory experience, and is priced for a suggested contribution of $110. Discounted sessions are available to low-income clients, people with disabilities, students, and senior citizens on a case-by-case basis. A discount of 25 percent is offered to regular customers if they book at least four sessions in advance. Your contributions are non-refundable. If a session is cancelled due to illness, unexpected traffic conditions, or inclement weather, any prepaid contributions will be credited toward future sessions within three months of the cancelled session.
Services provided here are strictly of religious and pastoral nature, though this is interfaith and non-sectarian service open to everyone and no religious affiliation or participation in specific religious activities is required.
